Data-Driven Insights for the Public Sector, Non-Profits, and Tenants

Track, Identify, Inform, and Leverage

The Rental Protection Fund has developed two web-based data-driven tools aimed at providing information to municipalities, non-profit housing providers, and at-risk tenants. The Strategic Housing Acquisition Resource Platform, or SHARP, is a mapping platform developed to both identify government-held land parcels with development potential and to inform stakeholders about multifamily transactions in B.C., and the Tenant Policy Atlas is an app designed to be a public resource that details the existence and content of Tenant Relocation & Assistance policies across the province.

SHARP

SHARP is a map visualization platform designed to enhance stakeholder understanding of contextual and spatial information about government land, non-profit housing, at-risk affordable rental housing within British Columbia, used to explore opportunities for densification and protection across the province.

Using proprietary data filtering and enhancement, SHARP provides parcel-by-parcel information on zoning, lot coverage, and sizing to identify optimal government-owned parcels for potential development, along with information on at-risk multifamily residential buildings and sales, allowing stakeholders to identify existing at-risk stock and make informed decisions when purchasing.

About SHARP

SHARP is an interactive map designed to help affordable housing providers find and identify spatial relationships between potential acquisitions, affordable housing sites, and government-owned land with development potential in British Columbia.

SHARP was developed by Cameron Glover, Matthew Risebrough, Meredith Sadler, and Eli Schwanitz with contributions from Joshua Desgagnes, Mehnaz Hafeez, T'Brenn Kelly-McKinnon, Annina Lorenzo, and Kuklam Wong.

Tenant Policy Atlas

Designed to be the most up-to-date collection of municipal and provincial policy regarding tenant relocation, the Tenant Policy Atlas combines researched information about municipal policies with an intuitive map-based UI designed to allow users to easily identify which policy applies to them and what the policy entails.

Municipalities can help improve renter knowledge by informing the RPF of the existence and content of their municipal tenant policies.
